Roundup: Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo scores in every group game SoTechNaija

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in every Champions League group stage match as Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 at the Bernabeu. Ronaldo also finished as the group stage’s top scorer for a sixth time, taking his tally for the season to nine.
The holders, who finish as runners-up in Group H behind Tottenham, were set on their way by Borja Mayoral’s first goal in the competition, set up by Ronaldo, who quickly added a second himself.

His strike ensured he found the back of the net in all six group games before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck either side of half-time to unexpectedly level things up. Lucas Vázquez’s late goal inflicted another defeat on Dortmund, who hung on to third place in the group to qualify for the Europa League.
Napoli’s faint hopes of qualifying at Shakhtar Donetsk’s expense were ended after a 2-1 defeat at Feyenoord, coupled with Shakhtar’s famous win against Manchester City. Nicolai Jorgensen headed Feyenoord level after Piotr Zielinski had volleyed Napoli into an early lead and Jerry St Juste headed the Dutch side’s winner in added time, after they had Tonny Vilhena sent off for his second bookable offence.

In Group G, Besiktas, who had already qualified as winners, won 2-1 in Germany against RB Leipzig thanks to Talisca’s stoppage-time winner.
Porto secured the win they needed to book the second qualifying spot in Group G by beating Monaco 5-2. Both sides were reduced to 10 men before half-time when the Porto defender Felipe was dismissed for his foul on the Monaco midfielder Rachid Ghezzal, who was also shown a straight red card for retaliating.
Liverpool’s Group E rivals Sevilla also progressed after drawing 1-1 away to Maribor, where Marcos Tavares’ header was cancelled out by Sevilla’s Ganso.

Match result: Chelsea 2 - 3 Bayern Munich

Chelsea 2 - 3 Bayern Munich

Alvaro Morata helped set up a goal on his Chelsea debut but could not prevent a 3-2 friendly defeat against Bayern Munich in Singapore.

The £60million signing from Real Madrid came on as a second-half substitute with his new side trailing by two goals, and teed up Michy Batshuayi for his fifth goal of pre-season.

But Chelsea paid the price for a slow start, falling 3-0 behind in the first half. First Brazilian full-back Rafinha came forward and pinged a low shot from 25 yards which found its way into the corner, before Thomas Muller struck twice.

Marcos Alonso drilled in Victor Moses' square pass just before half-time to make it 3-1, before Morata came on to make his first appearance in a Blues shirt 15 minutes into the second half.
Morata made his mark with six minutes remaining, flicking on a Fabregas corner at the near post to leave Batshuayi with a tap-in - but it was not enough for the Blues.

Chelsea vs Arsenal: Michy Batshuayi helps Chelsea cruise past Arsenal in three-goal demolition job in China

No club record buy Alvaro Morata – the £70million Spaniard could not get a visa in time to join his new team-mates in China – while neither Tiemoue Bakayoko nor Antonio Rudiger featured in the Blues line-up.
Yet, you would never have guessed it on the evidence of this pre-season clash in Beijing as the Premier League champions tore FA Cup winners Arsenal to pieces.
Ok, so Arsene Wenger’s men were not at full strength, with two homegrown kids Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cohen Bramall initially making up their numbers.

However, that should not hide the glaring gap in class between the London rivals – only 15 days before they meet again in the Community Shield.
Certainly, Wenger, who claimed beforehand that this game was “not a friendly”, will want to see a considerable improvement by then.

As for Chelsea, they are only going to get better and stronger once their trio of new superstars - plucked from around Europe for a combined cost of £130million - are added to the mix.
That spells bad news for the rest of the English elite bidding to stop Conte’s outfit making it back-to-back titles.

A superb double from Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi and a fine opener from Willian secured their victory at the Bird’s Nest stadium – but the margin could and should have been so much greater.
Chelsea’s performance smacked of a side full of players desperate to stake their claim to the manager before Morata and Co turn up.

t could scarcely have been more different from their desperately disappointing display in the Cup final defeat to Arsenal back in May.
Meanwhile, the Gunners, in their fourth warm-up match of the summer, were all over the shop from the outset.
Indeed, Chelsea might have scored four times inside the first eight minutes such was their desire and dominance.
The best of those opportunities fell to Willian but, with only David Opsina to beat, the Brazilian, who netted 12 times last season term, flashed inches wide.
Arsenal’s Colombian stopper then produced a fine stop from Victor Moses before the inevitable Blues breakthrough came in the 40th minute.

Willian skipped past Nacho Monreal and buried a curling shot in off the far post.
And a minute later Batshuayi, who earlier had been denied a goal by the offside flag, doubled the advantage – with an equally lethal left-foot finish.
Wenger already wore that familiar troubled frown across his face. His £46million record signing Alexandre Lacazette barely had a kick in 45 minutes, while Mesut Ozil, reportedly close to agreeing a new £250,000-a-week four-year deal, was non-existent.
How Wenger expects this Arsenal side to challenge for honours if, as expected, Chile ace Alexis Sanchez leaves for Paris St Germain, is anybody’s guess.
